Right Place, Right Time: Evidence-based Policy Interventions to Improve Pre-Hospital Stroke Care

Tuesday, October 10, 2017, 2:30 -2:50 p.m., EDT
Sponsor: CDC Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention

This 20-minute Coffee Break presentation is for anyone seeking to improve stroke outcomes through policy approaches.

Every 40 seconds someone in the U.S. has a stroke. Emergency medical service systems (EMSS) and providers are essential for recognizing suspected strokes, providing timely transport and pre-hospital care, and reducing time to treatment. In advance of World Stroke Day on October 29, this Coffee Break will review seven evidence-based policy interventions that states have authorized to improve pre-hospital stroke care provided by EMSS. These policy interventions were identified through surveillance of existing state laws; an evidence assessment which screened over 900 studies and narratives from the peer-reviewed and grey literature; and consultation with a group of stroke experts from the field. Presenter is Colleen Barbero, PhD.

No need to register, simply join this event here. Audio information: 855-348-8390, 74215616. Past presentations are available at the Coffee Breaks archive on the CDC Website.

1305 Epidemiology and Evaluation Collaborative (EEC) Monthly Call
Wednesday, October 11, 2017, 2 - 3:00 p.m., EDT

Sponsor: NACDD CVH Team

EEC is a peer-led group of epidemiologists and evaluators who come together each month to work smarter and more effectively with 1305 and 1422 epidemiology, surveillance, evaluation, and performance measures. States share what they are doing, resources, and questions and provide feedback to CDC. The group is led by Liz Gebhart (NE), Paul Meddaugh (VT), and Brittany Brown (UT). Our October discussion will include conversation about what we have learned from our 1305/1422 epidemiology, surveillance, and evaluation efforts. Come see what we are all about! No need to register, just call 1-877-273 4202, room 793-903-441 at the time indicated above. To be added to the EEC distribution list and membership roster, please email MaryCatherine Jones. Recording and Questions and Answers are now available for the September 2017 CVH Network Call on Million Hearts 2022: The Role of State Health Departments

The CVD network hosted a call with Dr. Janet Wright, who provided an overview of Million Hearts® 2022 and discussed some of the roles of state health departments. In addition to the recording that was sent out earlier, Dr. Wright also provided written answers to the session's questions, and shared links to an article on cardiac rehab; to the clinical quality measures that Million Hearts use; and an article on air quality. Click here for more information.

A recording is now available for the September 2017 Fireside Chat: Advancing Team-Based Care Through the Use of Collaborative Practice Agreements and Using the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process to Manage High Blood Pressure

NACDD, in coordination with CDC’s Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP), hosted this fireside chat, focused on a unique project designed to advance team-based care. Fireside Chats provide an interactive format for state health agencies to hear from content experts on a number of topics pertaining to cardiovascular health and 1305/1422 priority areas. On September 27, 2017, this fireside chat focused on 1) the use of the pharmacists’ patient care process and collaborative practice agreements, and 2) the experiences of states participating in a workshop-based project designed to implement new resources from CDC:
