The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is a public health association for chronic disease program directors of each state and U.S. territory. Since its founding in 1988, NACDD has been a national leader in the effort to reduce chronic diseases by mobilizing its members to advocate for preventive policies and programs, encourage knowledge sharing and develop model partnerships for health promotion through state and community-based prevention strategies.

ADVANTAGE INITIATIVE
The Advantage Initiative is helping communities around the country measure and improve their elder friendliness and, in the process, make their communities good places to live for people of all ages. ADVOCACY ON BUDGET CUTS
The Praxis Project has developed a toolkit, "Fighting Back on Budget Cuts," to support advocacy around the severe budget cuts that have affected both state and local budgets. HealthSeeker is an important, new social media game on Facebook that engages, teaches and motivates people with diabetes and those at risk to make positive lifestyle changes.  HealthSeeker is a unique online experience that combines a supportive social networking environment with important information on managing diabetes.  The game involves MISSIONS and ACTION STEPS to help players achieve several LIFESTYLE GOALS. CHRONIC DISEASE COST CALCULATOR
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, the National Pharmaceutical Council, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, have formed a collaboration to enhance our understanding of the cost of chronic disease. The two purposes of the NACDD-CDC-NPC-AHRQ Collaboration are: (1) to better understand the ways state chronic disease and Medicaid programs can cooperate with each other; and (2) to develop econometric models for states to estimate and discuss the fiscal impact of chronic diseases. www.chronicdiseasecollaboration.org

CONTINUING EDUCATION ON OBESITY ONLINE
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), in cooperation with the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO) has developed two free online continuing medical education modules on the assessment and management of overweight and obesity in adults. These modules provide health care practitioners with practical information based on a thorough review of the science that was published in the Clinical Guidelines on the Identification, Evaluation, and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults: Evidence Report. The courses review the importance of weight management and the health risks associated with overweight and obesity, what patients should be treated and how they should be treated, the motivations that lead to successful weight loss, and appropriate treatment strategies. NUTRITION EDUCATION PROGRAM
Nutrition Pathfinders, a multi-feature nutrition education program offered by the Dairy Council of California teaches 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students how to select foods based on the food guide pyramid and about the importance of physical activity. The program uses a variety of tools to engage students, including an interactive CD-ROM, activity workbook and web site. Additionally, the program is aligned with National Education Standards and meets core curriculum requirements for math, science, writing and health. A recent survey showed that students who participated in the program improved not only their knowledge about the food guide pyramid and healthy eating but also indicated improvements in nutrition habits. PRESIDENT'S COUNCIL WEBSITE ON PHYSICAL FITNESS
The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports launched a new online program to make it easier for adults and kids to get active and fit. The site includes motivational awards, activity logs, and other tools for groups and individuals. Check it out at www.presidentschallenge.org  

SCHOOL FOODS TOOL KIT
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has developed a new School Foods Tool Kit to help parents, health professionals, community groups, teachers and school administrators to improve the nutritional quality of the meals, snacks and drinks available to students. The Kit includes: model policies, fact sheets, advice about how to influence school decision makers and build support for change, and sample letters, flyers and other model materials. It also includes descriptions of numerous schools that have made positive changes to their school foods (many without losing money) and a list of pending state school foods legislation/policies.
