The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is a public health association for chronic disease program directors of each state and U.S. territory. Since its founding in 1988, NACDD has been a national leader in the effort to reduce chronic diseases by mobilizing its members to advocate for preventive policies and programs, encourage knowledge sharing and develop model partnerships for health promotion through state and community-based prevention strategies.

The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors’ Diabetes Council is a vibrant group of diabetes professionals who are committed to helping each other facilitate state- and territorial-based diabetes prevention and control strategies. We do this through influencing decisions and attitudes, making connections, and building capacity. Our core values are: purposeful impact, servant leadership, inclusive collaboration and passionate professionalism.

We are a member-driven organization, supported by professional staff and consultants at NACDD.  While Diabetes Council membership is open to all professional staff members of state, territory, district or commonwealth Diabetes Prevention and Control Programs (DPCPs), voting membership is only granted to DPCP Directors/Coordinators or his/her designee.  Associate non-voting membership is open to partner organizations, NACDD associate members, and other state and territorial chronic disese program managers and staff.

Our members actively work on three strategic priorities:

  • To attract and develop public health leaders;
  • To speak with one-voice as a proactive advocate for DPCPs; and
  • To define and support DPCPs roles in new arenas.

Much of the Council's work takes place in committees and workgroups, which include:

  • Act on Data Group
  • Advocacy Commitee
  • Membership and Communications Committee
  • Mentoring Committee
  • Professional and Leadership Development Committee
  • School Health Workgroup
  • Strategic Planning Committee

If you are already a Diabetes Council member actively serving on a committee or workgroup, thank you for all you do. If you are interested in serving on any of these committees, click on the "Committees" link on the right side of this page and contact the appropriate committee chair.
