NACDD is excited to share with you our most recent publication, Partnering for Success: How Health Departments Work
and How to Work with Health Departments. This publication was developed by the School Health Project, in
collaboration with and support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – Division of Adolescent and School
Health. Partnering for Success: How Health Departments Work and How to Work with Health Departments focuses on
creating healthy schools, and discusses the many ways in which health departments can be of support to
education departments, schools, and community leaders. The publication is designed to help readers better understand
how state and local public health systems are structured, their roles, what types of programs they administer, the
support and resources they can offer to school health programs, and how to take advantage of those resources.

Our Mission
NACDD's School Health Project is committed to working to help build the capacity of Chronic Disease Directors and other health department staff involved in the health of children and youth. Its mission is to assist states and territories in reducing the risk and burden of chronic disease in school communities to promote lifelong health and to support academic success.
Project Overview
The School Health Project assists Chronic Disease Directors and their staff to make informed decisions about a variety of school health issues by providing technical assistance, up-to-date information and resources, and professional development. The project focuses on school health issues most directly related to preventing chronic disease - physical activity, nutrition and tobacco prevention programs. The project works with the School Health Council (made up of representatives from each state) to increase health department leaders' skills and knowledge, increase collaboration between health and education departments, and increase the visibility of school health issues in general.
The NACDD School Health Council is funded through CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health (CDC/DASH) for
the purpose of assisting states and territories in integrating chronic disease risk reduction strategies, especially
those that focus on physical activity, healthy eating, and tobacco use reduction or tobacco free lifestyles, into school
settings. Voting membership is made up of one school health designee from each state, territory, district,
commonwealth, or tribal organization as determined by the Chronic Disease Program Director. General and associate
membership is open to others who work on chronic disease prevention at the state level and/or in the area of school
health. For more information regarding the School Health Council, go to the Council web pages or take a look at the
