The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is a public health association for chronic disease program directors of each state and U.S. territory. Since its founding in 1988, NACDD has been a national leader in the effort to reduce chronic diseases by mobilizing its members to advocate for preventive policies and programs, encourage knowledge sharing and develop model partnerships for health promotion through state and community-based prevention strategies.

About the School Health Council

The NACDD School Health Council is funded through CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health (CDC/DASH) for the purpose of assisting states and territories in integrating chronic disease risk reduction strategies, especially those that focus on physical activity, healthy eating, and tobacco use reduction or tobacco free lifestyles, into school settings.

School Health Council Mission:
 
To assist states and territories in reducing the risk of chronic disease in school communities.
 
School Health Council Goals:

  • Build capacity of chronic disease directors in state health departments to address chronic disease prevention in school settings specifically to increase physical activity, healthy eating, and tobacco use prevention within the context of a coordinated school health program.
  • Foster partnerships among organizations in support of chronic disease prevention in school settings, especially partnerships between state departments of health and education.
  • Educate decision makers about chronic diseases including the rationale for chronic disease prevention among youth. 

Membership:

Representative or voting membership is open to one school health designee from each state, territory, district, commonwealth, or tribal organization as determined by the Chronic Disease Program Director. General membership shall be open to other health department employees who direct or work with chronic disease prevention and control programs and associate membership is open to other public heath professionals passionate about working in school health.   For more information about membership contact Amy Greene at greene@chronicdisease.org.
