The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is a public health association for chronic disease program directors of each state and U.S. territory. Since its founding in 1988, NACDD has been a national leader in the effort to reduce chronic diseases by mobilizing its members to advocate for preventive policies and programs, encourage knowledge sharing and develop model partnerships for health promotion through state and community-based prevention strategies.

  1. Medicare Preventive Services:  Policy, Resource Center, Legislative Toolkit (Website Link): The Women In Government website that provides critical information on the prevention of chronic disease, with an emphasis on heart disease and women.  The Toolkit includes background information such as reports and articles, fact sheets, brochures, sample legislation and state policy recommendations.
  2. National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO) Public Health Advocacy (Website Link): This website describes the policy arm of the National Association of City and County Health Officials. The website informs policymakers of the critical role local health departments play in keeping our communities healthy and safe. 
  3. National Council of State Legislators:  Public Health Website (Website Link): The National Conference of State Legislatures is a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the nation's 50 states, its commonwealths and territories. NCSL provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues. NCSL is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of state governments before Congress and federal agencies. 
  4. Council of State Governments Health Policy Group (Website Link): A website resource that describes Health policy resources. The Health Policy Group provides policy analysis and innovative programming for state health policy leaders in the legislative and executive branches. This group also hosts many Web conferences and health forums for state leaders throughout the year. 
  5. American Diabetes Association Government Affairs and Advocacy Website (Website Link): The Government Affairs & Advocacy division at the American Diabetes Association works to improve access to quality care, eliminate discrimination against people because of their diabetes, and make sure the federal government is adequately funding diabetes research and programs. The website contains resources and tools aimed at reducing discrimination, addressing key federal and state policy issues, increasing federal and state government funding for diabetes programs and securing health insurance for people with diabetes. 
  6. CDC Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Legislative Database (Website Link):  This website allows users to search for bills related to heart disease and stroke prevention topics for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  Users can search by CDC priority area, general topic, keyword, state, bill number, bill year, or bill status.

CDC Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Legislative Database (Website Link):  This website allows users to search for bills related to nutrition and physical activity topics for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  Users can search by keyword, subject, state, bill number, bill year, or bill status.
