Work Group Descriptions
Academy Planning Work Group
- Composition: Member Lead, 6 (or more) additional members
- Time Frame: Established yearly, in early Spring, for following year’s Academy
- Responsibilities:
- determining the theme/tracks of the Academy
- identifying subjects/content needed to fulfill theme of the Academy
- suggesting suitable speakers/presenters for the Academy
- overseeing review of presentation abstracts received.
- Work Description: The NACDD Academy is a skills based program developed and offered by NACDD for persons working in the chronic disease prevention and control field. The purpose is to build capacity and increase competency among chronic disease professionals. The group will accomplish their work through conference calls and e-mail communication. Initial meetings will establish call for proposals for upcoming year. Subsequent work will take place from to review proposals received and select presenters. Final phase of work will occur in Dec/Jan to review final training outlines and materials and give feedback to presenters. Work Group will solicit help from PRCs, and other organizations with a focus in chronic disease for review processes, if needed.
General Member Calls Work Group
- Composition: Member Lead, 5 additional members
- Time Frame: Established yearly, in October, for one year period of work
- Responsibilities:
- identify appropriate topics for General Member Calls
- identify appropriate speakers for selected topics.
- facilitate development and presentation of call, including contacting potential speakers, and obtaining power-point presentations, or other materials as needed to support the speaker and topic.
- Work Description: General member calls are offered on a monthly basis to educate NACDD members on relevant and timely topics. The group will accomplish their work through conference calls and e-mail communication. Initial meetings will begin establishment of topic/presenter schedule for following year’s calls. Additional conference calls will be held as needed to refine/update schedule. Members should expect to be responsible for facilitating at least two calls during the year, which will include locating speaker(s) and working with speakers to provide materials for call as needed.
Curriculum Development Work Group
- Composition: Member Lead, 3 to 5 additional members
- Time Frame: One year commitment.
- Responsibilities:
- identification of curriculum topics to be developed (with exception of Academy curriculum).
- function as content experts for chronic disease to assist staff during contract negotiation with contractor (with exception of Academy curriculum)
- assignment of a work group member to serve as member lead of Curriculum Advisory Group. Advisory groups are established with curriculum consultants, content experts from within NACDD, and staff. Curriculum advisory groups will be disbanded as curriculums are developed, field tested, and finalized.
- Work Description: NACDD seeks to add to the portfolio of professional development activities/curriculum each year, with additions based on identified member needs and available financial resources. This work group will be responsible for reviewing needs and resources and determining topics to be developed. The group will accomplish their work through conference calls and e-mail communication. Needs assessment data will be provided from online assessment tool, among other sources. Workload of the committee will vary from year to year based primarily on budget resources.
Evidence-Based Chronic Disease Course Work Group
- Composition: Member Lead, 2 additional members
- Time Frame: One year commitment
- Responsibilities:
- maintain contact with Ross Brownson, St. Louis University contact, to determine needed work of committee
- perform work as needed for the course presentation.
- Work Description: NACDD works with Ross Brownson to facilitate an annual presentation of this course. In past years, work needed has varied from course development to participant solicitation and assessment. Course is now fully developed, but NACDD may be called upon for support in updates, participant applications, etc. The group will accomplish their work through conference calls and e-mail communication. Workload is expected to be minimal.
Mentoring Work Group
- Composition: Member Lead, 6 additional members
- Time Frame: One year commitment
- Initial Responsibilities:
- continue ongoing work re: research of need
- develop mentoring materials and program for NACDD
- begin implementation of developed program.
- Work Description: Recent survey of NACDD membership results indicate that members want NACDD to develop and implement a mentoring program among the membership to facilitate personal and professional development. In response to these survey results, the work group will be responsible for the development of an effective mentoring program for NACDD members. The first year commitment for this group will involve conference calls and e-mail communication. Development of materials and program may involve repeated review/edits.
Product Work Group
- Composition: Member Lead, 5 additional members
- Time Frame: One year commitment
- Responsibilities:
- develop products as need is determined in response to strategic priorities of NACDD and communicated by the Board.
- If needed, work group will form sub-groups to recruit content/process experts to accomplish tasks.
- Work Description: Each year products developed from the PDC may vary. This group is responsible for assuring that one-time products such as brochures, job descriptions, etc., are drafted and finalized for distribution to NACDD membership. The group will accomplish their work through conference calls and e-mail communication. Tasks identified at this time for this group include completion of the competency based job description templates, and development of a marketing brochure for the NACDD educational portfolio.
