Gita is an award-winning population health professional and native of Chicago, IL. She oversees health equity initiatives designed to strengthen public and private health systems and address leading causes of morbidity, mortality and disease. She specializes in the development of multisector groups (boards, councils, coalitions) to drive health improvement and advance health policy. Gita is an expert in Hispanic health improvement strategy and is a workgroup member of the Illinois Alliance for Health, a team of experts charged with executing the state’s health reform initiative. Gita has worked as Vice President of the DuPage Health Coalition, a competitive alliance of healthcare systems and physician providers whose flagship program delivered comprehensive medical services to at- risk populations. She was also the Founding Director of the Blue Island Community Health Coalition, a public/private partnership in a medically underserved region outside Chicago. In 2011, Gita received the Excellence in Health Equity Award at the Minority Health in the Midwest conference and has since completed the National Leadership Academy for the Public’s Health, a competitive applied leadership development program offered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She holds a JD from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. A former member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association’s Board of Directors for the School of Public Health, Gita is a proud recipient of the 2015 UIAA Loyalty Award given to alumni who have shown excellence in leadership and service to their alma mater and is passionate and committed to making a difference and driving change.
