NACDD Completes STAR visit with the District of Columbia's Department of Health

NACDD's State and Technical Assistance Review Program (STAR) completed a four-day technical assistance site visit in Washington, D.C. from September 29 to October 2, 2014 at the request of the District of Columbia's Bureau of Cancer and Chronic Disease, a division of the D.C. Department of Health (DOH) Community Health Administration. D.C.'s STAR Review Team included Dr. Victor Sutton, Mississippi Chronic Disease Director; Dr. Mehul Dalal, Connecticut Chronic Disease Director; Mr. Royal P. Walker, Jr., Director of Member Services and Community Outreach at UnitedHealthcare and Presidential Appointee for the National Council on Disability; Tamika Smith, NACDD Creative Design Lead; and STAR Program Consultants Dr. Ellen Jones, STAR Program Lead and Natasha McCoy, MPH, D.C. STAR Site Visit Lead.
D.C.'s STAR Review Team completed 21 interviews in two days with a total of 30 interviewees, including D.C. Department of Health Director Dr. Joxel Garcia, M.D., M.B.A. and Ryan Springer, Senior Deputy, D.C. DOH Community Health Administration. The STAR Team developed D.C.'s site visit report the following day and presented findings to D.C.'s Bureau of Cancer and Chronic Disease on Thursday, October 2.
STAR program consultants will continue to work with D.C.'s Bureau of Cancer and Chronic Disease Director, Jason Brown, and staff to address D.C.'s technical assistance priorities and STAR report recommendations.
