Collaborative Partnerships in Arthritis

Much of the focus of NACDD’s arthritis activities is on increasing awareness and access to community-based arthritis programs through collaborative partnerships with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Arthritis Program and national partners. We would like to highlight two of our national partners in this month’s NACDD Impact Brief:

1.) Working in partnership with CDC and NACDD, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), provided ten $4,000 awards to local park and recreation agencies to implement the Arthritis Foundation’s Walk with Ease program. NRPA received over 100 qualified applications. We would like to announce that the 2015 Walk With Ease grant recipients are: Tuskegee Parks & Recreation, Tuskegee, Alabama; City of Buckeye Community Services Department, Buckeye, Arizona; City of Jacksonville, Jacksonville, Florida; Rockford Park District, Rockford, Illinois; Lafayette Recreation and Parks Department, Lafayette, Louisiana; City of Greenbelt, Greenbelt, Maryland; City of Mustang, Mustang, Oklahoma; Spearfish Rec & Aquatics Center, Spearfish, South Dakota; City of Dallas, Dallas, Texas; and Vancouver Parks and Recreation, Vancouver, Washington.

2.) In 2014, the CDC Arthritis Program, American Physical Therapist Association (APTA), American Chronic Pain Association, NACDD and Westat, developed a toolkit comprising arthritis intervention fact sheets for PTs and their patients, an intervention decision aid and intervention overview sheet for physical therapists. This year, the PT Marketing Group made up of the same partners, is working to develop a website to serve as the permanent home for toolkit materials and pilot marketing strategies to physical therapists. The new website will be housed on the national APTA webpages.

We look forward to continued partnership throughout 2015!
