NACDD Welcomes 2016 Mentee Cohort for the National Mentorship Program in Applied Chronic Disease Epidemiology

The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors is pleased to announce participants of the 2016 National Mentoring Program in Applied Chronic Disease Epidemiology Mentee and Mentor Cohorts.

Since 2010, NACDD has worked collaboratively with the CDC Division of Population Health’s Research, Science and Evaluation Branch to provide mentorship opportunities in applied chronic disease epidemiology for newly-hired and junior-level chronic disease epidemiologists working in state and territorial health departments.

The NACDD Epidemiology Mentoring Program Steering Committee, led by Mr. Khosrow Heidari, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Senior Chronic Disease Epidemiologist, and NACDD program consultant have worked each year to recruit and select 8-9 epidemiologists to participate in the mentee cohort. Steering Committee and NACDD consultant also recruit senior-level chronic disease epidemiologists from state and local government, academia, health care and research to participate as mentors.  Mentee and mentor participants are recruited through NACDD’s member network, with additional assistance provided by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologist and American College of Epidemiology.

Mentees receive individualized mentoring to develop competencies in applied chronic disease epidemiology and program skills. Mentees have selected a project that will serve as the focus of their mentorship.

Program mentors receive a stipend for their advisory support and technical assistance services.

All participants will receive travel support to attend the 2016 Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists’ Conference, June 19-23, 2016, in Anchorage, Alaska.
