Updating Health Department Staff about NACDD Applied Epidemiology Resources

Monday, June 19, 2017   (0 Comments)

About 1,500 individuals from state and territorial health departments and allied organizations attended the conference where NACDD representatives answered general questions about NACDD support for chronic disease epidemiologists and received many expressions of appreciation for the work that NACDD does.

NACDD’s exhibit booth and session leadership at the Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists Conference increased interest in NACDD programming for chronic disease epidemiologists at the conference in Boise, Idaho, June 4-7. NACDD activities included:

• Leadership of a roundtable session on health department infrastructure to support Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in chronic disease prevention programs, presented on behalf of the CDC/NACDD/Rice University GIS Network.

• A roundtable session facilitated by Khosrow Heidari, NACDD Member from South Carolina, to discuss the NACDD Applied Chronic Disease Epidemiology Mentoring Program. The Mentoring Program is accepting applications through June 30.

• An NACDD exhibit promoting the National Data Sources for Cardiovascular Research and Surveillance Project staffed by consultants MaryCatherine Jones and Susan Svencer, and Brain Bug Solutions staff Melanie Reagan and Lauren and Kelsey Cox. NACDD works with CDC and Brain Bug Solutions on this project to develop a free, online tutorial to increase awareness of the national data sources and systems for cardiovascular disease surveillance.

• A demonstration session on the National Data Sources for Cardiovascular Research and Surveillance tutorial.
