CAREER OPPORTUNITY: Health Equity Consultant

Overview

This advanced level public health consultant position requires subject matter expertise for health equity and social justice in public health – particularly in the context of chronic disease, and serves as the technical support person for NACDD’s Health Equity Council (HEC). The position serves a key role for NACDD’s goal to promote health equity, and performs a wide range of advanced and complex activities requiring independent judgement, and sound knowledge of health equity concepts and resources.

Responsibilities for this position include: 1) provide support, leadership, technical assistance, to the Health Equity Council; 2) manage multiple and numerous projects and activities to meet health equity focused project goals and deliverables; 3) compile and present quality information in form and content as it relates to health equity and the goals of NACDD and the Health Equity Council; and 4) complete other health equity-related assignments as needed and requested.

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Provide support, leadership, technical assistance, to the Health Equity Council
  • Facilitate email communication among HEC members
  • Provide support to the HEC during an annual review and discussion of HEC goals and major activities
  • Assist HEC chair in setting meeting dates and developing monthly HEC agendas
  • Support HEC monthly meetings as needed
  • Communicate information or direction from the NACDD Board regarding HEC activities
  • Communicate information from other association activities related to health equity (i.e. Communities of Practice) that may impact HEC activities.
  • Compile monthly HEC meeting minutes
  • Support management of the HEC website (through collaboration with Communications department) to make it helpful and more user friendly; make recommendations for added content as appropriate
  • Represent the HEC (liaison) by responding to the NACDD Board and CEO’s request for health equity information, updates and data.
  • Manage multiple and numerous projects and activities to meet health equity focused project goals and deliverables
  • Utilize knowledge of NACDD and other partner organizations ASTHO, CDC, OMH, NAACHO to enhance NACDD’s health equity focus.
  • Support partnership development between NACDD and other national partners with a similar focus on health equity.
  • Assist in identifying and applying for funding opportunities
  • Develop Issue Briefs, Fact Sheets, and/or Newsletters related to health equity
  • Support the HEC in the distribution and facilitation of the recently developed Institutional Equity Curriculum
  • Compile and present quality information in form and content as it relates to health equity and the goals of NACDD and the Health Equity Council
  • Represent the NACDD and the HEC’s health equity goals, activities and expertise at meetings and conferences where HEC members cannot be present
  • Help to promote and distribute products, tools, and resources developed by NACDD and the HEC
  • Compile regular, periodic reports from the HEC to the Board (regarding HEC activities)
  • Complete other health equity-related assignments as needed and requested.

Experience

  • Masters in Public Health or equivalent experience in the public health sector
  • At least four years of work experience in a state, county or local health department, preferred
  • Experience with working with diverse populations, including tribal populations, preferred
  • Prior Association or other not–for-profit experience, preferred
  • Demonstrate knowledge of group learning and facilitation experience, preferred
  • Demonstrate successful project management
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter expertise
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with the Public Health Associate Program (PHAP)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team

Classification: Contractual/Consultant status; 1.0 FTE

Contract Duration: Project contract is 1 year; project duration could be multiple years

Annual Compensation: TBD
