Diabetes Council’s Leadership Group.

Background
For over 20 years, the Diabetes Council has advocated for, connected, and inspired state and territorial health department staff across the country who are dedicated to improving the lives of people with and at risk for diabetes. The Diabetes Council's various liaison positions provide opportunities for greater synergy within NACDD, and engage more state members and partners with diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experience.

Request for Nominations

The Diabetes Council is seeking nominations for leaders for the Leadership Group. Learn more about the NACDD and Diabetes Council, the roles and responsibilities for the Leadership Group positions, and the benefits of serving on the Diabetes Council Leadership Group from the Diabetes Council – Recruiting New Leaders document. All positions on the Leadership Group are elected. Please consider serving on this group so that your unique voice and perspective are represented. To nominate yourself or a colleague, complete the Nominations Form by May 6, 2015.

Who is Eligible to Serve on the Diabetes Council Leadership Group?
Any full time or part-time State Health Department (SHD) staff or contractor who has worked on diabetes efforts for at least 2 years is eligible to be nominated or to self-nominate. Any position (chronic disease director, communications manager, operations manager, epidemiologist, evaluator, etc.) is eligible to serve. Those with leadership skills or the desire to learn and cultivate leadership skills are needed.

Who is Eligible to Vote in the Diabetes Council Leadership Group Elections?

Eligibility to vote is the same as the above eligibility to serve.

Advocate

  • Provides an avenue for state health department staff to collaborate with, and provide recommendations to national, professional, governmental, voluntary agencies and associations including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on matters pertaining to the implementation of diabetes prevention and control efforts by state health departments.

Are All of the Leadership Group Positions Available?
No, some leadership group members were elected last year for a two-year term and thus have one more year remaining on their term. The Leadership Group membership is designed to have staggered terms so that some members have experience on the leadership group.

What Positions are Available and What are the Term Lengths?
The Diabetes Council is seeking nominations for the positions listed below. See the Diabetes Council Transformation – Recruiting New Leaders document for the roles and responsibilities of all the leadership group positions. All positions will serve a two-year term (July 1, 2016 and end June 30, 2018) except for the Chair Elect. The Chair Elect will serve three years, one year as Chair Elect, one year as Chair, and one year as Past Chair.

Nominations are needed to fill the following Leadership Group positions

  • Chair Elect
    • Chair Elect will have a 3-year commitment with a one-year term in the following positions: Chair Elect, Chair, and Past Chair
  • All terms for the positions below will be 2 years. The positions are:
    • Workgroup Co-Chairs
      • Professional Development Workgroup Co-Chair
        • Co-Chairs will have staggered 2-year terms so each year there will only be one new Co-Chair serving with an “experienced” Co-Chair
      • Mentoring Workgroup Co-Chair
        • Co-Chairs will have staggered 2-year terms so each year there will only be one new Co-Chair serving with an “experienced” Co-Chair
