March 2016 Impact Brief

March 2016
NACDD is the only organization representing all state and jurisdictional chronic disease staff, dedicated to building capacity and making public health good for the public.

Robert Wood Johnson’s breathtaking initiative, “Building a Culture of Health,” is a national movement taking on one of the most pervasive challenges of our time: improving the health and well-being of everyone in America.  Fortunately, it is a challenge that NACDD is uniquely suited to assist.

For nearly three decades, NACDD’s unique strategy has been to engage and support state health department  professionals working in chronic disease and health promotion.  It has championed practice-based learning activities that build on adult learning theory, organizational development theory and effective approaches for knowledge translation.

Central to our work, we approach each practice with a health equity lens.  To that end, we have just hired a health equity team member to ensure that equity is threaded through each of our programs and practices.  Recently I attended one of our CDC funded programs called, "Reaching Persons with Disability through Healthy Communities".  Hosted in Birmingham, Alabama by the Lakeshore Foundation, this one of a kind program highlighted the extent to which equity must be obtained for all persons - in all places.  NACDD's members have been on the front lines of building a culture of health in every state, city, town and territory.  Let us know how we can continue to support and advance the great work that you do.
