National Diabetes Prevention Program :: West Virginia

West Virginia

West Virginia aims to prevent type 2 diabetes and promote evidence-based lifestyle programs by creating awareness among health care providers, implementing a referral system in order to increase provider referrals, and advocating for the Diabetes Prevention Program as a covered benefit for all state employees. In order to create awareness, the WV Diabetes Prevention and Control Program (DPCP) has created a presentation for providers and modifiable for various audiences. To aid in implementing a referral system, the DPCP is working with health centers to create four pilot programs and test the referral process. Additionally, the DPCP is building a relationship with the state insurer in the hopes of having DPP covered for all state employees.
