September 2014 Impact Brief

September 2014
NACDD is the only organization representing all state and jurisdictional chronic disease staff, dedicated to building capacity and making public health good for the public.
Message from the CEO
As another fiscal year comes to a close, I think of the many projects and programs that you, our members, have completed over the last year.  I think about how many grants and FOAs you have submitted - how many staff you have hired (and retained) - how many reports you have filed - how much technical assistance you have provided and ultimately how many lives you have impacted.  I was reminded of this recently when members of our staff revisited the town of Salamanca, NY.  Seven years ago, that tiny town took an even tinier grant and turned it into hundreds of new sidewalk blocks, dozens or safe cross walks, a youth center and a community garden.  Even more impressive is the coalition that they built with the Seneca Nation that is stronger today than it has ever been.  We call Salamanca a 'success story' but really it is exactly what our members do every day.  I hope that as this year comes to a close, you will reflect on the work that you have accomplished and the successes that you have allowed to define public health.
