NCCDPHP Cooperative Agreement Announcement - State funding

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announces the availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2013 funds to implement State Public Health Actions to Prevent and Control Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity and Associated Risk Factors and Promote School Health. There are two components to this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) with potential of $28 million for all 50 states and an additional $42 million for up to 25 states. (Read more)

NACDD STAR a Technical Assistance Resource for Chronic Disease Programs

The State Technical Assistance and Review Program (STAR) offers technical assistance to state, commonwealth, territorial and local health departments as they develop, implement, and evaluate effective chronic disease programs. STAR was developed by NACDD and is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (Read More)

The Road to Heart Health...and the Big Apple

One of NACDD's very own Healthy Communities continues to promote healthful living among residents through it's "Follow the Fifty: Models of Heart Health" community action program. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Northeast District Department of Health and the HealthQuest Northeast Connecticut coalition recruited 155 participant models to take part in this healthy lifestyle journey over the last year. Free Age-Related Macular Degeneration Public Services Announcement Posters

During AMD/Low Vision Awareness Month this February, the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) encourages every adult to schedule an eye examination to check for the earliest signs of this disease.

CHICAGO, IL - January 31, 2013 - According to the National Eye Institute, an estimated 15 million Americans have some form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of vision loss in adults age 60 and older. (Read More)

NACDD has Moved National Headquarters

NACDD has relocated it's Atlanta-based headquarters down the street to a new facility. The move has only affected the mailing address. All other contact information such as email, phone and fax remains the same.

February 2013 NACDD General Member Call

Dr. Brian Smedley of the Health Policy Institute at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies will provide a general orientation to demonstrate how social and economic factors affect health outcomes using initiatives like PLACE MATTERS. He will also describe selected case studies of situations where social and economic factors were applied to measure progress using examples like Moving the Opportunity, and recommend opportunites to NACDD members to partner with organizations like the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. As a result of the Webinar, participants will recognize the impact of an intervention that addresses a social or economic factor resulting in a positive health outcome.
