February 2014 Impact Brief
February 2014
NACDD is the only organization representing all state and jurisdictional chronic disease staff, dedicated to building capacity and making public health good for the public.
Message from the CEO

As I drove to work, I observed a new hospital billboard that cited, "90% of all women are at risk for heart disease."  I pondered this fact and wished that it read, "100%" of all people, since we all are "at risk" if we don't take proactive measures to protect our heart.  February is American Heart Month and we support the great work of our partners like the American Heart  Association and the National Forum among others.  NACDD is also a grantee of Million Hearts (see article below).  Additionally, our cardiovascular practitioners in states have added significant resources on our website at:  Of course we all need to watch our caloric intake, reduce fats, sugar and sodium and stop or prevent smoking.  Moreover, we need to reduce our sedentary behavior and exercise more regularly.  Regular, daily movement, in addition to exercise, is critical to reducing the risk to our hearts.  From billboards to bumper stickers it was great to see this month's Valentine messaging, include an emphasis on health.

Two Weeks Left to Nominate Yourself or a Colleague
It is time to get recognized for your hard work and this year you can nominate yourself as well as a co-worker.  We know that our members do not work for any award or recognition however it is important to the field of public health that we stop and recognize your accomplishments.  NACDD Awards provide the field of chronic disease with an opportunity to shine the light on your work far beyond public health.  They provide legislators, industry partners and health care providers with the information they might not receive any other way.  Click here to nominate!
