How Important is Nutrional Biomarker Data to Nutritionists?: A Survey of State Nutritionists on Nutritional Biomarkers

A recent collaborative survey of NACDD and ASTPHND member state nutritionists informed the Nurtrition Biomarkers Branch of the Division of Laboratory Sciences about use of the first National Report on Biochemical indicators on Diet and Nutrition in the U.S. Population, 1999-2002 and helped identify potential uses of the second report which will be released in early 2012.


School Health Council Using Social Media to Strengthen Communication

The School Health Project has been working on strengthening their communications around school health and chronic disease using social media. Each month, the project publishes an update on recent news, resources, research, webinars and funding around school health.


Win Up To $40,000 For Your Health Department's Innovative Policy Idea

APHA is excited to announce a policy contest for health departments. The Power of Policy: Innovation to Improve Health.

U.S. health departments at all levels of government (state, territorial, local, tribal) are encouraged to submit a proposal for an innovative policy approach to a critical public health problem, with a focus on reducing health inequities and building policy capacity. Between five and eight health dpartments will receive awards ranging from $25,000 to $40,000 to develop and implement their proposal.


NACDD Awards Champions of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control

The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) today announced their annual award recipients for top contributors in state chronic disease programs and projects nationwide. "These awards are not perfunctory obligations that we hand out each year. Rather, they reflect the highest levels of accomplishment and impact related to chronic disease," said NACDD's Chief Executive Officer, John Robitscher.


Chronic Disease Webinar Series

The American Association for Clinical Chemistry will be doing a webinar series in 2012 on high-value tests for high-impact diseases (chronic diseases). The series will feature sessions on cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and thyroid disease.

NACDD Announces Student Chronic Disease Day

NACDD has launched a brand new student membership initiative targeted at the nation’s Schools of Public Health. This initiative identifies outstanding students to act as a Student Director on their campus to plan and host a NACDD sponsored Chronic Disease Day at their school. So far, Harvard, Columbia and Tulane have hosted their Chronic Disease Days, giving NACDD prominent exposure on campus while providing students with unique educational opportunities.
