July 2014 Impact Brief
July 2014
NACDD is the only organization representing all state and jurisdictional chronic disease staff, dedicated to building capacity and making public health good for the public.
Message from the CEO
July is National Bison Month and NACDD is headed to the great bison state of Wyoming to present its State Chronic Disease Academy.  The Wyoming Department of Health invited NACDD to craft a two-day training meeting for its state-wide public health partners to better coordinate its chronic disease work around the CDC domains.  Chronic Disease and Substance Abuse Unit Chief, Keith Hotle, contacted NACDD in the spring to begin discussions for a summer academy.  Three years ago, NACDD made a strategic decision to begin to offer its national Chronic Disease Academy to individual states.  That decision has allowed us to provide more state-specific training that is germane to the precise work that is going on in a state with sensitivity to its particular political climate, health needs and ethnic or racial demographics.  Wyoming was able to contract with NACDD as part of its 1305 objectives.  We enjoy the opportunity to provide more tailored technical assistance to states by adapting our academies in this way.  Stay tuned to hear more about this academy and feel free to contact us to discuss how NACDD can bring a Chronic Disease Academy to your state.
