Dr. Zohoori is Deputy Chief Science Officer at the Arkansas Department of Health, and Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Public Health. He earned his MD degree from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, his MPH from Johns Hopkins University, and his Ph.D. in Nutrition and Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Zohoori joined the ADH in 2004, having worked previously in the areas of public health, nutrition, epidemiology, aging and chronic diseases in Russia, China, the Philippines, Jamaica and the US. In his various positions at ADH, he has been responsible for overseeing programs in Comprehensive Cancer, Heart Disease and Stroke, Diabetes, Obesity, Physical Activity, Nutrition, Older Adults, Worksite Wellness and Children in Schools. In 2009, he received the ADH Director’s award for Excellence in Public Health Science. In 2012 he was ADH’s nominee for ASTHO’s National Public Health Heroes Award. Dr. Zohoori has served as the Chairman of the Arkansas Legislative Stroke Task Force, and the Arkansas Chronic Disease Coordinating Council.

Nationally, Dr. Zohoori has served on, and is currently President of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors, and has served as the NACDD’s representative 1) on the Board of Directors of the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention; 2) at the AHRQ Summit on Linking Clinical Practice and the Community for Health Promotion; and 3) at a presentation to the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on a National Surveillance System for Cardiovascular and Select Chronic Diseases. He has served on a number of CDC Special Emphasis Review Panels, and as a member of expert panels on the CDC-AMA-AARP Preventive Services Collaboration for Building Clinical and Community Linkages to Promote Preventive Services for Adults Aged 50 to 64 in the United States. Dr. Zohoori has also consulted for and worked with a number of international organizations, including the World Bank, the US Agency for International Development, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, and WHO/PAHO.
