CAREER OPPORTUNITY: Research Administrative Coordinator, Portsmouth (VA) Diabetes Prevention Program

SUMMARY

Under the direction and oversight of the Project Director and Project Investigator/Co-PIs, the Research Administrative Coordinator will oversee the daily activities of the grant project. Assigned duties include: overseeing administrative logistics, such as IRB applications; recruiting sites and partners; conducting literature reviews; conducting community assessment activities; implementing project activities at sites (such as conducting surveys or collecting data); managing data; assisting with reporting activities; and otherwise supporting the development and implementation of the grant project.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree plus one (1) year of experience in psychological research, applied psychology, public health research, sociology, or another related field. Experience should include working with community groups and partnerships. Experience with literature searches, materials development, and data analysis. Familiarity with diabetes, prediabetes and food banks preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills. Expertise in Microsoft office products, word processing, and data base software and management, and internet searches. Strong general computer skills. Expertise in data base software and management and in SPSS and/or SAS programs, preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and data analysis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct extensive literature reviews on publications in scientific databases on assigned topics. Summarize literature reviews on assigned topics in a narrative format.
  • In conjunction with the Principal Investigator(s)/Project Director, assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Portsmouth Diabetes Prevention Project.
  • Independently develop and prepare materials for data collection procedures including interviews, surveys, and in vivo observational assessments.
  • Recruit participating sites and administer surveys and/or program components.
  • Coordinate activities and communication with program sites/partners.
  • Data entry, management, and analysis of collected data.
  • Generate written and oral reports.
  • Independently prepare and/or assist with the development of manuscripts, grant proposals, and other written materials destined for submission to external sources for review.
  • Supervision of volunteers, students and lower level staff assigned to project.
  • Independently prepare and/or assist with submission of papers and posters to conferences.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on new and developing projects.
  • Attend program meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

This is a grant funded position and will terminate at the end of the grant period.

 

WORK CONDITIONS:

Specific vision abilities required by this job include 20/40 vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus.

Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however work after hours and on weekends will be required to meet the demands of the position. Training sessions may/will be presented after regular work hours.
