Job Description          


The Virginia Department of Health(VDH), Division of Population Health (DPH) is seeking an experienced data analyst/program evaluator.

Responsibilities include analyzing chronic disease data, conducting surveillance for and developing data products on chronic disease programs, establishing evaluation plans and reports and using data analysis tools (e.g., Statistical Analysis Software, Geographic Information System, Tableau, RedCap) to support federally funded grant programs.

Contribute to grant applications and reports by providing disease burden information, statistics (e.g., rates, percentages, frequencies, statistical testing) on heart disease, stroke, diabetes/prediabetes, hospital claims data, and self-reported health behavioral data (e.g., BRFSS YRBS). Respond to data request in a timely manner by providing high quality, reproducible data reports.

Additionally this position will represent VDH on regular grantee and technical assistance calls (e.g., monthly calls with federal funding agency, Epidemiology and Evaluation Consortium) by participating and sharing evaluation promising practices and information.

Occasional travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications        

Intermediate level of SAS data analysis.

Experience with Microsoft Excel and database management.

Knowledge of evaluation techniques with the ability to research, compile, and analyze data.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written language, and work well with others.

Preferred Qualifications        

Master’s degree in Public Health, with coursework in program evaluation, epidemiology and biostatistics.

Experience with the CDC’s Six Step Framework for program evaluation, All Payers Claims Database, Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Data, and GIS.

Experience developing Health Impact Statements.
