Job Description 
The Health Equity Office Director will oversee the implementation of evidence-based programs and initiatives to promote health equity and reduce health disparities in Mississippi. This will include developing effective national, state and local partnerships with organizations to focus on reducing health disparities; promoting equity, cultural competency; utilizing health disparities data to inform and guide community-based culturally competent disparities reduction programs; developing, managing and evaluating local community-based health disparities programs in diverse communities and with diverse population groups; collaborating with providers in health care programs that target racial, ethnic and other marginalized groups with documented poor health trends; and working with elected officials at both the state and local level. 

Job Duties 

  • Develop and oversee evidence-based, data-driven programs/initiatives aimed at reducing disparities in health outcomes in Mississippi.  
  • Provide vision, guidance, and supervision of the day-to-day operations for the program, including management of staff. 
  • Represent the Office of Health Equity at departmental and interdepartmental meetings and at meetings with external stakeholders.  
  • Collaborate internally with other MSDH offices/divisions to impact health disparities. 
  • Collaborate with other State Offices of Health Equity and Minority Health to work at regional and national levels on health equity policies. 
  • Oversee the development and submission of grant applications, progress reports, data and evaluation reports, fiscal reports and other materials to federal and state funders to meet all required evaluation and reporting criteria of the grants while ensuring that the local contractors are complying with all evaluation and reporting requirements. 
  • Assure evaluation of disparity reduction efforts to assess effectiveness and modify strategies/programming as appropriate.
