Policy, System, Environmental Change Strategies...

Since 2008, NACDD has supported policy, system and environmental (PSE) improvement strategies as preferred methods for creating communities where access to physical activity and healthy eating abound, and where exposure to tobacco is limited.  NACDD worked in conjunction with additional national organizations and communities from across the nation in the CDC's Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and EnVironmental changE (ACHIEVE) Healthy Community Program, including 48 of its own funded communities in 31 states and one US territory, to reduce the leading chronic disease risk factors of physical inactivity, unhealthy eating, and use of tobacco products.  NACDD's network of funded communities, state health department expert advisors, and team of dedicated project consultants collaborated to "ACHIEVE" 1,861 sustainable improvements, where more than 5,000,000 people now experience healthy choices as the easy choices where they live, learn, work, play, pray, and receive care.
