Cancer Early Detection and Working with Medicaid - State Experiences

Monday, August 18, 2014   (0 Comments)
NACDD has funded nine states to work with their respective Medicaid programs regarding transitioning women from their breast and cervical cancer early detection programs to similar coverage under Medicaid.  Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Programs funded by CDC have competed for funds for a planning phase and an implementation phase.  The states funded to date include IN, MI, MS, NC, NY, NV, OR, UT, WA.  NACDD was invited to present information about these projects at the recent CDC DCPC meeting, "Adapting Cancer Programs in an Evolving Public Health Environment" held in Atlanta the week of August 11-15.  Four projects presented - two about their planning efforts (NV, WA) and two about their implementation efforts (MI, NC).  A major result of these projects is closer working with their respective Medicaid programs and staff and having access to data and other program information that they did not have before.  As the implementation of the ACA proceeds and the health care environment continues to evolve these projects are learning to be nimble in their planning and creative in meeting unanticipated changes/challenges as they implement their plans.
