NACDD Hosts Webinar on Connecting Chronic Health Conditions and School Attendance through Improved Data Collection and Use

Chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes and food allergies play an important role in school attendance. Over 800 people joined to learn more about this topic in NACDD’s recent webinar “Connecting Chronic Health Conditions with School Attendance: Improving Data Collection and Use.”

NACDD collaborated with Attendance Works, the National Association of State School Nurse Consultants, the National Association of School Nurses, along with staff from the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to highlight this emerging area of data collection and use around chronic conditions in schools. Nearly 75% of post-webinar survey respondents felt that the webinar increased their ability to identify actions they can take to apply information and resources from the webinar to the management of chronic conditions in schools.

Examples of their actions include improved collecting and monitoring of daily attendance; communicating with administrators, school boards and parents; revising attendance procedures; partnering with state education departments and others around data on absenteeism due to health issues; and promoting nursing interventions and increased care coordination for students with chronic conditions.
