NACDD Announces Board Members for 2018-2019 Fiscal Year

ST. LOUIS (Sept. 14, 2017) – On Tuesday, the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) announced the 2018-2019 Board of Directors during the Association’s annual professional development conference, the Invitational Chronic Disease Academy. The new board term will begin Oct. 1.
"This year, we had more nominations for the NACDD board than ever before,” said NACDD CEO John Robitscher. “We are delighted that so many well-qualified chronic disease professionals value service to their peers and are seeking opportunities to help lead the country in addressing chronic disease prevention, control, and health promotion.”

Chronic Disease Prevention Director and Chief Policy Officer for the Georgia Department of Public Health Jean O’Connor, JD, DrPH, FACHE, will serve as president for Fiscal Year 2018. Dr. O’Connor is responsible for statewide programs related to cancer prevention, tobacco, asthma, and adolescent health. For almost 20 years, she has worked in public health research, policy, and program development.

Dr. Gabriel Kaplan, chief of Colorado Department of Health and Environment’s Prevention and Health Promotion Bureau in the Prevention Services Division, will join O’Connor and serve as president-elect. Dr. Kaplan oversees policy initiatives with state and local governments and is an expert in health system integration. Previously, he initiated a strategic planning process that broadened the distribution of $35 million in tobacco tax revenue to help sustain the impact of funded initiatives.
Mary Manning, MBA, also joins the Executive Committee as treasurer for FY2018. Manning is the director of Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Division for the Minnesota Department of Health in St. Paul, Minnesota. As director, Manning focuses on improving health for those who are burdened or disabled by chronic disease and injuries.
NACDD members elected two at-large members for FY2018: David Hoffman, New York; and Krista Fremming, North Dakota.
Dr. David Hoffman, is the director for the Bureau of Community Integration and Alzheimer’s Disease, Division of Long Term Care, for the New York State Department of Health. Dr. Hoffman focuses on policy development for prevention, management, and control of chronic disease in long term care. He also oversees the Home and Community-Based Service Waiver Programs.
Krista Fremming, MPA, is the director of the Division of Chronic Disease for the North Dakota Department of Health. As director, Fremming provides management and leadership for chronic disease programs, and provides education to healthcare professionals on chronic disease prevention and evidence-based management strategies.
The rest of the Board roster for the 2018-2019 year includes: Mehul Dalal, Judith Gabriele, Karen Girard, Whitney C. Hammond, Melita Jordan, Monica Morales, Jean O’Connor, Kristi Pier, Kathy Rocco, and Linda Scarpetta.
