Purpose of Position:
The Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (HDSP) Program Health Educator assists in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating evidence-based heart disease and stroke prevention initiatives, with a primary focus on achieving goals and objectives as required by federal and other funding agencies designed to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in the state. Additionally, the Health Educator develops and monitors professional services contracts and provides technical assistance, including: developing or linking people/organizations to resources and coordinating statewide activities.



This position is a Pay Band 65.


Health Educators Advanced


Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or Education and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totalingsix (6)years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) course is required within 10 business days of employment.

Working Conditions:
This position will perform work in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to thirty (30) pounds may be required. Some statewide and out-of-state travel using a state owned vehicle with the occasional overnight night stay is required.
