April Reese, MPH

Diabetes

April Reese is a Public Health Consultant in the Diabetes Practice Area at NACDD. April is a consultant with the Diabetes Technical Assistance and Support Team. She came to this role after working at the North Carolina Division of Public Health for 17 years. She worked primarily in diabetes prevention and management, and in 2013, added heart disease and stroke prevention activities to her portfolio. She spent some time as the principal investigator for a chronic disease coordination grant that brought together partners from all chronic disease and risk factor programs to develop and implement a state plan to prevent and manage chronic disease and injury in North Carolina. April is a former chair of NACDD's Diabetes Council and was elected to serve in 2010.

April is an experienced leader who has expertise in evaluation, policy, and program planning. She also served as the staff liaison to the North Carolina Diabetes Advisory Council. April is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Management Academy for Public Health and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Leadership Program.

Previously, April worked as the Education and Communications Director for the North Carolina Council for Women and Domestic Violence Commission and in various capacities for the Wake County Public School System. She has a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Missouri at Columbia. She is married with two sons and two dogs.
