Monthly "GEAR UP" Virtual Journal Club
Generate, Educate, Activate, Respond: Understanding Publications, known as “GEAR UP,” journal discussions are held every third Thursday of the month at 3:00 p.m. ET for 30 minutes. Articles and podcasts for discussion are selected from the peer-reviewed literature, such as Preventing Chronic Disease and the American Journal of Public Health, and mainstream media like Harvard Business Review. The journal discussions explore best practices pertaining to leadership and management and evidence-based public health, and the application of these practices to public health work. A few past journal discussion topics have focused on building public health workforce skills, improving population health, and managing successful quality improvement projects, for example. Journal Club topics align with the focus of that month’s Chronic Disease Directors Forum Webinar (formerly First Thursday Webinar), wherever possible.
