Karen Girard is the Manager of the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention section of the Oregon Healthy Authority - Public Health Division. She received her master's degree from Portland State University in public administration and her bachelor's degree from Willamette University in international studies. She came to work at the Public Health Division in 1995 as a legislative liaison. That legislative session sparked her interest in public health, and she's been at the Public Health Division ever since, working to change policy, systems, and environments to improve the public’s health in tobacco control, alcohol, physical activity and nutrition, early detection and self-management.
