From Miriam Patanian, NACDD CVH Lead Consultant

We recently learned that Terry Meek, the Health Systems Coordinator at the Iowa Department of Public Health will be retiring January 2, 2019. Terry began her work in in the Heart Disease and Stroke program in 2009 and has been an active participant in the CVH Network Leadership team during that time. We will miss her insights and commitment. However, we are thrilled that she is beginning this next great adventure. Public health in Iowa is better because of her dedication to her profession. We wish her the best of everything.

From Diabetes Council
Reminder: Two opportunities with Dec. 7 deadlines: 1. Apply for Travel Scholarships; 2. Become a Guide for Peer Mentoring Opportunity

1. Apply for Travel Scholarships
If you are working on diabetes prevention or management strategies in 1815 or 1817, and would like to attend a conference for professional development, then the Diabetes Council invites you to apply for a travel scholarship. Find list of possible conferences here. This scholarship is open to State Health Department staff working on diabetes prevention or management strategies in 1815 or 1817. Complete the application and send to April Reese by Dec. 7.

2. Guides Needed for Peer to Peer Mentoring Opportunity
The Diabetes Council and CVH Network talent scouts are seeking top professionals to serve as Guides for 2019. Guides are state staff who have worked on Diabetes and/or CVH strategies for at least two years and who are willing to share their knowledge with newer state staff. We need Guides that have a variety of Diabetes and CVH experience including program administration, policy, marketing, and especially epidemiology and evaluation.

If you are interested in being a Guide, complete the short survey at  NACDD 2018-2019 Peg Adams Peer to Peer Program Participation Form for Guides by Dec. 7. If you are interested in being a Learner, stay tuned. We will send out a request for Learners as soon as we have all of our Guides established. If you have questions, please contact April Reese.
