From the CVH Leadership Team

Janice Gray, Alaska

Welcome to this issue of Off the Cuff! As outgoing chair of the CVH Network Leadership Team, I’m especially pleased to announce that we are looking for some new members to join us for the 2017-2018 year starting in December! The CVH Network Leadership Team represents YOU to NACDD, CDC, and other partners. We do this by setting priorities and recommending the best methods for these partners to provide support to health departments regarding health systems and hypertension control strategies.

Our Chair Elect, four At-Large member positions, and representatives for the NACDD Government Affairs and Professional Development Committees are available for nomination. We would like to make sure we have a strong, committed, and diverse team. This is a great opportunity to recognize and provide a national leadership opportunity to outstanding Domain 3 staff.

Being a member of the Leadership Team is a terrific experience that provides connections to other health departments and worthwhile information from other programs and organizations impacting Domain 3 strategies, insight into best practices for strategy implementation, and NACDD/CDC support in bringing innovative learning opportunities to all Domain 3 staff. Most positions require only 1 hour per month for meetings. I highly recommend that you join us!

A detailed overview of the Leadership Team and positions are available here. Please complete the nomination form by Wednesday, November 22. MaryCatherine will follow up with all nominees after the nomination period closes to affirm their interest in serving on the Leadership Team, answer questions about the group, and request a bio from each candidate.

Please feel free to contact me at with questions about the Leadership Team. You may also contact our NACDD consultant, MaryCatherine Jones, at with questions about the Leadership Team or nomination process.

I am looking forward to working with our incoming Chair, Tara Trujillo. I have been honored to serve as the Chair this past year working with such dedicated and engaged individuals. Thank you all for your incredible work improving the public’s health.

Strategies to Highlight the Impact of Your Program

Tuesday, November 14, 2017, 2:30 -2:50 p.m., EST
Sponsor: CDC Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention

This 20-minute Coffee Break is for anyone seeking to communicate the public health impact of your program with stakeholders.

With an ever-changing public health environment, there is a need to demonstrate impact to a variety of stakeholders. While you may have a large amount of data and lengthy reports that describe your program and outcomes, these need to be summarized in a way that is meaningful and that will tell the story of your program. This coffee break will explore the use of health impact statements to better communicate to stakeholders how your program influenced public health outcomes, provide key steps taken to develop impact statements and share specific examples. Presenters are Rachel Davis, MPH and Aisha Tucker-Brown, PhD.

No need to register, simply join this event here. Audio information: 855-348-8390, 74215616. Past presentations are available at the Coffee Breaks archive on the CDC Website.
