Who We Are

In 2008, dedicated advocates from the United States Associated/ Affiliated Pacific Islands' (USAPI) banded together to protect the health of Pacific Islanders by addressing diabetes and other chronic diseases through the establishment of the Pacific Chronic Disease Coalition (PCDC). Although the needs are great PCDC and partners are striving to leverage scarce resources. PCDC members are designated by the Directors/Secretaries/Ministers of health. The PCDC has 16 Members from:
  • American Samoa - 2 members
  • Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands -  2 members
  • Guam - 2 members
  • Federated States of Micronesia - 5 members
  • Republic of Palau - 2 members
  • Republic of the Marshall Islands - 3 members

What We Do

  • Address chronic diseases in the United States Associated Pacific Islands (USAPI).
  • Provide an avenue to act collectively with international, professional, governmental, community organizations, faith based organizations, and NGO agencies on issues that affect the successful development, management, implementation, and evaluation of chronic disease programs.
  • Reduce the chronic disease burden by adopting and implementing comprehensive chronic disease prevention and control programs.
  • Advocate with policy makers to address the burden of chronic diseases in the Pacific Islands at the village, local government, faith-based, national government, and international levels.
  • Respect the unique cultures, decision making process, and best practices of the Pacific Islands.
  • Acknowledge the strengths, wisdom, and resources of Pacific people.
