Sharon Jackson is a Public Health Consultant in the Diabetes Practice Area at NACDD. She is a native North Carolinian and a passionate public health professional. She attended North Carolina Central University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education. In 2006, she joined the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) as a Disease Intervention Specialist. At DHHS, she implemented prevention and intervention strategies, and counseled, tested, and interviewed HIV and syphilis-positive individuals. Noticing the importance of policy and systems changes within the field of public health, she obtained a Master of Public Administration from Strayer University in 2011. Simultaneously, she served as the Clinic Coordinator for the North Carolina Study to Explore Early Development (SEED) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. SEED is the largest epidemiological research study focused on determining the causes of autism and other developmental delays in children ages 3 to 5. Her scope of work includes contact tracing and investigation; program planning and implementation; and prevention and management of chronic conditions, including cancer, tuberculosis, hypertension, and diabetes. In her most recent role as the Diabetes Prevention Coordinator for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Public Health, her primary responsibilities involved working with organizations delivering the National DPP lifestyle change program across the state and providing technical assistance and support to CDC sub-awardees to promote sustainability.

She enjoys laughing and spending time with family and friends. Living by the motto, “Never put off till tomorrow what may be done today,” Sharon always is ready to serve and looking for innovative ways to improve the health of the communities in which we live, work, and play.
